While Lolita Fashion has rapidly gained international popularity outside of Japan, inclusive sizing has lagged behind considerably. It’s not uncommon for Japanese brands to still make one-piece dresses without back shirring or JSKs with high-waists, thus essentially shutting out large portions of the Western audience with restrictive sizing for most of their pieces. Plus size Lolitas especially get the short end of the stick as the most popular brands continue to be inflexible with their options. All brands should offer inclusive sizing so that everyone can wear those pieces and until that day comes, hopefully this blog will help expose some new places to check out.

This blog is to showcase and highlight some lesser known Western and Eastern brands that specialize specifically in sweet Lolita or offer sweet Lolita pieces. For inclusive sizing, we’re looking at pieces with options ranging from a minimum max bust of 100cm/39in bust (US sizing charts vary dramatically as clothing sizes are not standardized so this can put someone anywhere between a US size 10-16 depending on the chart) as this tends to be where Lolita plus sizes begin (Japanese size 2L). We’re also looking at brands that have specifically marked plus size/custom sizing options. This list is tracking bust size specifically as that tends to be one of the most common points of sizing issues regarding Lolita but of course, bust size does not inform someone’s full measurements such as waist, height, shoulders, etc, it’s just what’s being used to produce this list so please make sure to always review all listed measurements on a piece before ordering and note that there is typically a 2-3cm (plus or minus) margin of error with most garments. These are organized in no particular order and of course, all images belong to their respective brand owners and are merely used as examples of their works here.

With a bundle of pink pieces and fun border prints, Maxicimam also features their “Lovely” size selection in which most of their pieces are converted into larger plus sizes being one of the first Japanese brands to do so. Their plus sizes range from Japanese L-5L or 120-140cm bust with some pieces going beyond this as well.

Metamorphose is a Japanese Lolita brand that has existed since the 1990’s. Metamorphose frequently visits the United States during conventions and takes feedback. They’re a major brand with frequent releases. They’ve recently invested in creating Plus Size and Plus Plus Size options for their newest collections. While these collections so far have tilted towards gothic and classic, Meta is known for their colorful and loud sweet prints as well so it’s only a matter of time before they release more sweet prints in more sizes. Some of their current and older collections feature fully shirred dresses, blouses, and skirts with a max of 120cm-145cm so it’s also worthwhile to look for this brand secondhand as well.

Shoe sizing is actually a massive barrier in regards to Lolita fashion as most Japanese brands only go up to a size L or LL (24.5cm-25.0 or the equivalent of a US size 8-8.5) so I wanted to include an inclusive shoe brand as well. Cotton Candy Feet offers shoe sizes in Brazil sizes up to 42BR or the equivalent of US size 12 in women’s. CCF also offers a wide range of bags that compete with Angelic Pretty’s designs.

At the time of this posting, they carried several Lolita pieces with inclusive size options.

The Popular Brands

It’s not nearly as common as it should be but the popular sweet brands Angelic Pretty & Baby, the Stars Shine Bright do have pieces in their catalogs that are plus size friendly, so keep an eye out on Lacemarket, Fril, Mercari, Yahoo Japan Auctions, and other secondhand sites.

Final Words

Some of these brands don’t have a lot of releases because they’re small brands, sometimes with one person teams, but that makes supporting them even more important so they can continue to make new pieces. Supporting smaller brands means they can continue to push for a new standard of inclusive Lolita pieces where the fashion truly can be for everyone. This blog only covered sweet Lolita but there are brands that specialize only in classic or gothic style that are not listed here. This is an excellent list, there are plenty of shops here that I’d never heard of! The only brand that I can think of to add would be Violet Fane, who tend to be on the gothic/classic side. Though their Otome Nostalgia series not only was very sweet, but super plus-size friendly, despite not offering custom sizing.

I wanted to add Violet Fane but Otome Nostalgia feels like a complete one-off series, I’m not sure if I can sincerely recommend them to sweet Lolitas because it’s highly unlikely they’ll ever make another pink print when reviewing their brand history. I think they’re much more better suited for classic and gothic Lolitas as a recommendation 🙂

I’ve never seen a long and complete list of inclusive brands, I hope more new plus size Lolitas see it. Finding out some brands don’t go up 100 cm in chest is a disappointment. Well, that was the reality a long time ago.

  Definitely but hopefully more brands will start expanding their sizes so more and more people can wear Lolita. And no problem at all! Chocolate Bunny has a lot of great solid designs, you should be very proud! I hope you will continue making more and more pieces!

This is a great list. I learned a lot! However, I wanted to add that Aurura and Ariel does do custom sizing! I got my petticoat custom sized and it’s got plenty of room! I have also heard claims Dear Celine might, but I still have to investigate that more myself.

Thank you so much for mentioning my channel Fluffy Kawaii Jo and my brand Fluffy Tori. I wanted to add that with Fluffy Tori we also do custom sizing shoes on demand. We just sold a shoe size Euro 56! We made a fully custom mold for it!

Cotton Candy Feet does do custom sizing for a fee. If you pay for the molds of the machine for your foot size, they will create them and from then forward you just pay the normal price for shoes. Also if anyone has a EU 48/ US 13 shoes, I’ve already paid for that mold. You can PM them to just get your shoes made with no fee. :3

Just wanted to note that Anna House is from Hong Kong, not China! Quite an important distinction for some of us 🙂

Thank you so much for the shoutout! I just wanted to add that this year we revised our two pattern sizes, so our size 1 max bust is 111.7cm(44″) and size 2 max bust is 132cm(52″). All of our older stock is made with the smaller patterns and that is noted on their descriptions but moving forward these are our new sizes 🙂

This is a great list! So far I’ve only used Wunderwelt however in the past I’ve ordered a couple of times from MaidenClothing (another secondhand Japanese store). They never seem to have a great deal in stock but they have a nice variety of styles from lolita to more gothic stuff! Only snag is I always seem to get hit by custom charges, whelp.

I’m glad sizes are slowly getting bigger! I hope this list updates sometime soon! I’d like to add that since most plus-size lolita blogs are inactive, I made my own at lovecraftian-lolita on Tumblr! I find as many brands as possible or pieces in general that have bigger sizing! (At least 110cm bust, 95cm waist, 43EU Shoe size)! I am always taking recommendations and this definitely helps! Thanks for the list! I do hope more types of lolita come up to like classic and gothic and such!
