The One That Got Away

Happy Sunday!

This past week has been incredibly busy for me. I just left a bad apartment situation and settled down into a brand new apartment! So this week, I’ll talk regretfully about the ones that got away!

When life happens (like moving for example) it can make it hard to focus on lolita, especially if funds are tied up on more important priorities. It especially can be devastating if a dream item happens to appear in the wrong place and at the wrong time.

There are several dream items I have as a list of things I would eventually like to collect. My overall goal as a lolita is not to be sweet, gothic, or classic but rather theme based. My desired theme is “Circus lolita” and whatever prints, accessories, or items may fall under that category. Sticking with this theme has helped me target my spending on prints & accessories I only truly want so I don’t end up growing my wardrobe into something that is unmanageable or filled with dresses I don’t actually want. With that being said, it’s a bit of a challenge because there is now a small category of items to pick from and within that, an even smaller collection of items I actually like.

So onto my first misses!

I’m very devastated that I missed this one. I was awake late at night and saw when it was first posted but with my move, I was uncertain whether or not I could commit the funds. I debated and debated and by morning at work when I finally decided to just go through with it, it was gone to someone else. There’s no telling when I’ll ever come across it again. For a positive, it did motivate me to think about some personal ideas for accessories.

For more expensive prints, I tend to do payment plans and when I saw this, I immediately asked for a payment plan. Unfortunately the down-payment was much larger than what I’m used to so I had to wait but by my next paycheck, it was deleted with no telling how much it actually sold for.

Angelic Pretty’s Melty Chocolate Shoes

Definitely been eyeing these shoes in L for a while. Every time I’ve seen it pop up on Lacemarket, I can’t put down the money. And it still pops up occasionally but never in my size.

I eyed this one for days. I asked my friend to loan me the money until my next paycheck so I could purchase it and when she agreed, I was so ecstatic! That feeling suddenly turned to terror when I checked the listing only for it to immediately be purchased by someone else! Fortunately my friend mistook what I said and was the one who bought it! Definitely put me into a brief panic but it worked out in the end and I have this lovely staple in my wardrobe now. 🙂

Overall, it can be hard to determine the timing of when to buy something. Lolita is a collection based hobby and everything made within it is available at a finite quantity. There will always be debate over when is the “right” time to buy something and when something is “rare” it can be even harder to find good affordable deals. I try to find a nice balance between good prices and good timing but I still make mistakes over underestimating how much I truly like something or how unique it is. As I continue on my lolita path, I’m sure I’ll figure out how to get better at it! 🙂

Until next time!

*Update 12/20/17: I managed to get all of the items listed here! I bought the Memorial Ticket Necklace secondhand, found the Electirc Circus JSK in a different cut and color, and got AP’S Melty Chocolate Shoes in pink! I’m happy I got second chances with my near-misses!
