Hello! It’s been a while! I wanted to make this long awaited follow-up to my Size Inclusive Sweet Lolita Brands post. Since writing that post in 2020, many things about the online Lolita community have changed. Social media platforms have started cratering and forcing information into quickly consumable video content, thus making it harder and harder to find accurate and updated information about Lolita fashion. Additionally, platforms such as Facebook and Instagram have banned “lolita” as a hashtag and removed recent hashtag functionality all together, making it difficult to find each other or accurate worn photos of new/past releases. All of this, coupled with image/text scraping for feeding generative AI, has been a nightmare to navigate and it reminded me of the importance of independent blogging and keeping text/photo records. Despite the many difficulties of modern connection, Lolita fashion continues to grow and evolve. In that time, many gothic lolita brands, Japanese ones included, have expanded their size ranges to target a wider audience with enthusiasm. There’s so many more options and choices now so I want to share the sources I can so maybe this post will help someone find a new brand to support!

Like the sweet post, this gothic post will define “size inclusive” as pieces that have a minimum max 100cm/39in bust (Around a US Size 10-16) as this tends to be where Japanese 2L is. Some of these brand have labelled their designs as “plus size” but of course, sizing charts vary wildly and some cannot be accurately described as “plus size” by a western market. So please make sure to review all measurements of a piece carefully to ensure a good fit!

Atelier Pierrot

Atelier Pierrot is both an original Lolita brand and a storefront that sells pieces from other local brands. In recent years, they’ve invested heavily into expanding their size range towards the western market. They’ve added Sizes ranging from 1 to 3/4 and have redesigned many of their staple pieces (and new pieces as well) to encompass this expanded range while keeping their iconic silhouettes. Additionally, they’ve begun hiring plus size & minority models to showcase their pieces. Connie, the English manager for AP, has talked extensively in a post about the process behind Atelier Pierrot’s business moves into expanding their range and it’s definitely worth a read. Ultimately, I think this brand is a shining example of the future of inclusive Lolita fashion.

Metamorphose is a Japanese Lolita brand that has existed since the 1990’s. Metamorphose frequently visits the United States during conventions and takes feedback. They’re a major brand with frequent releases. They’ve continued investing in creating Plus Size and Plus Plus Size options for their newest collections so almost every new release comes with a Plus Size option. They release in all substyles of Lolita but have released some recent gothic designs. Some of their current and older collections feature fully shirred dresses, blouses, and skirts with a max of 120cm-145cm so it’s also worthwhile to look for this brand secondhand as well.

Elegy

Elegy is a US-based indie brand composed of unique designs all handmade by one creator. Their pieces often include embroidery and motifs such as bat wings and crosses. They often use cotton or chiffon with lots of elastic for a comfortable fit. As all pieces are made-to-order, custom sizing is always an option.

Miss Danger

Miss Danger is a Russian based gothic fashion brand with a specialty in gothic designs. Many of their pieces feature custom intricate embroidery or beading and large, defined silhouettes. They offer an extensive size range (sometimes up to 14 sizes!) with their largest bust measurement capping at 142cm.

I Do Declare

I Do Declare is an indie fashion brand based in the US and managed by a two-person team. They create historical inspired gothic pieces with long billowy silhouettes and natural fibers. Their pieces tend to reach a maximum bust 132cm with some blouses going up to 152cm.

Kaneko is an indie brand based in Georgia and heralded by a six-person team. Their designs are gothic with custom artwork and natural fabrics in defined silhouettes. Their size range often goes from 1-4 with a max bust of 128cm, while sometime offering custom sizing if they’re able.

Iris Garden x Haenuli

Haenuli had originally retired from making Lolita dresses but has recently come back in full force as a partnership with Iris Garden. They’ve made many new Lolita dresses with some showcasing Haenuli’s beautifully drawn skeletal artwork. Their pieces can be found pretty frequently secondhand. Their pieces’ largest size tends to be max 125cm-130cm bust.

Violet Fane (Retiring)

Violet Fane was a Spain-based Lolita fashion brand with whimsical and gothic designs. They announced their brand closure in and have been selling the remainder of their inventory. Their pieces were very popular while they were active and they can be found secondhand. Their largest sizes tended to go up to 137cm bust.

They announced their retirement from Lolita to more ready-to-wear casual clothing and since then, they have been actively making the last of their Lolita pieces. They’ve offered a range of gothic releases now and in the past and can often be found secondhand. Their largest size is around 4XL/124cm bust with custom sizing sometimes offered.

RosinaBlue

Triple Fortune is a Japanese Gothic & Lolita brand owned by musical performers Kaie & Babi, who also do archival work writing about the history of Lolita fashion. They create a lot of small unique runs and they’re known for their lacy designs, graphic prints, and beautiful large sized bonnets. They make a lot of fully shirred pieces with some that go up to 120cm bust depending on the design.

This size goes up to 110cm bust and 100cm waist. The design sold out so it’ll be interesting to see if they continue expanding their range farther.

Chinese Lolita Updates acts as an overseas shopping service for Chinese brands you would otherwise have to find directly through Taobao. They post pictures, updates, and size charts for every new release they share by a Chinese brands. Following them on Facebook or Instagram is a great way to discover new Chinese brands that make inclusive pieces.

Wunderwelt Fleur

Wunderwelt is a secondhand Lolita website similar to Closet Child but they also have an online marketplace called Wunderwelt Fleur that stocks new Lolita brands. Some of the new brands they stock have sizing options for their dresses, abandoning the one-size-fits all. At the time of this posting, they carried several Lolita pieces with inclusive size options.

The Popular Brands

It’s not nearly as common as it should be but the popular gothic brands Moi-même-Moitié & Alice and the Pirates do have pieces in their catalogs that are plus size friendly, so keep an eye out on Lacemarket, Fril, Mercari, Yahoo Japan Auctions, and other secondhand sites.
